Latest Update: 20 Sep 2006
The Immigrant Genealogical Society has acquired copies of
marriage abstracts taken from old Mecklenburg churchbooks
covering time periods from before 1704 to 1875.
If you do not know the village or parish in Mecklenburg where
your family lived, a count of marriages of your surname in every
index may suggest where to look.
If you know the ancestral village, we can check the index for
that specific area and supply copies. We can probably identify
the proper index from the village name. The Salt Lake Family
History Library has microfilms of the churchbooks which these
indexes cover.
The marriages are grouped under the following headings:
___ A--Stavenhagen, Malchin, Waren, Penzlin
___ B--Güstrow City, Güstrow County, Teterow, Laage
___ C--Robel, Malchow, Plau, Krakow, Goldberg
___ D--Schwaan, Neukalen, Gnoien, Tessin
___ E--Ribnitz, Marlow, Sulze
___ F--Doberan, Bukow, Drevesk, Butzow, Kroplin, Warin
___ G--Neukloster, Grevesmuhlen, Rehna, Gadebusch
___ H--Wittenburg, Zarrentin, Boizenburg
___ J--Lubz, Parchim, Neustadt, Grabow, Domitz
___ K--Hagenow, Crivitz, Sternberg, Bruel
___ L--Rostock City, Schwerin City, Wismar City

What our volunteers can offer:
___ We can check all indexes for one timeperiod, count for each
area how many times one surname appears,
and send up to 3 copies. We'll tell you how to order additional
copies.
___ We can count all marriages for one surname in one area
checked above. We'll send up to 10 copies, and
explain how to order additional copies, if available. List the
surname below.
If your surname is very common (Muller, Schmidt, Bauer, etc.) you
must know a town or parish before you can hope to find a specific
family. The Salt Lake Family History Library does have censuses
for other years.
