Mecklenburg Marriage Abstracts
Schwerin 1751-1800 all, 1801-1826 only A, B.
The Immigrant Genealogical Society has acquired 37 volumes of marriage abstracts taken
from old Mecklenburg churchbooks covering roughly 1751-1800. There are 13 indexes for
this set. Abstracts of about 110,000 marriages are indexed in this series. We also have
5 volumes for areas A and B from 1801 to 1826, with more expected.
If you do not know the village or parish in Mecklenburg where your family lived, a count
of marriages of your surname in every index may suggest where to look. If you know the
ancestral village, we can check the index for that specific area and supply copies. The
Salt Lake Library has microfilms of the original churchbooks.
The marriages are grouped under the following headings:
___ A--Stavenhagen, Malchin, Waren, Penzlin
___ B--Güstrow City, Güstrow County, Teterow, Laage
___ C--Röbel, Malchow, Plau, Krakow, Goldberg
___ D--Schwaan, Neukalen, Gnoien, Tessin
___ E--Ribnitz, Marlow, Sülze
___ F--Doberan, Bukow, Drevesk, Bützow, Kröplin, Warin
___ G--Neukloster, Grevesmühlen, Rehna, Gadebusch
___ H--Wittenburg, Zarrentin, Boizenburg
___ J--Lübz, Parchim, Neustadt, Grabow, Dömitz
___ K--Hagenow, Crivitz, Sternberg, Brüel
___ L--Rostock City, Schwerin City, Wismar City
___ M--Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Area of Stargard
___ N--Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Principality of Ratzeburg
1705 - 1750
The 10 indexes for this time period include about 80,000 marriages. The arrangement
and format are the same as for the 1751-1800 indexes. We supply a list of abbreviations
to help you decipher the record. The Salt Lake Library should have the original churchbook
films for these marriages.
Prior to 1704
The indexes for this time period include about 40,000 marriages. The arrangement and
format are the same as for 1751-1800 indexes. The earliest marriage was in 1604. These
indexes include all readable names in all known surviving churchbooks. Check the Salt
Lake Library catalog for original films.
Strelitz 1801--1825 or 1826--1875
These abstracts of Strelitz marriages partially substitute for the lack of census records
for this area.

What our volunteers can offer:
___ We can check all indexes for one timeperiod, count for each area how many times one
surname appears, and send up to 3 copies. We’ll tell you how to order additional copies,
if available. Fee - $7.00
___ A check of areas A and B in the years 1801 -- 1826 can be provided. Fee - $3.00
___ We can count all marriages for one surname in one area checked above. We’ll send up to
10 copies, and explain how to order additional copies, if available. List the surname
and area below. Fee - $7.00
If your surname is very common (Müller, Schmidt, Bauer, etc.) you must know a town or
parish before you can hope to find a specific family. One of the Mecklenburg censuses listed
on the reverse of this flyer may help you identify the parish. The Salt Lake Library has
unindexed censuses for other years.
